If you listen to the birds outside your window, you get that one that goes: "Jeep - jeep - jeep!"
I think some Manufacturer must have been at home one day, trying to come up with a name for his new car, he heard one of these birds & the rest is history.

here I thought it was going to be some strange acronym that was coined by the army in world war 2 or something

I still think it might be, need to look it up now

I like the word "SNAFU"
